Skill development is an important driver to address poverty reduction by improving employability, productivity and helping sustainable enterprise development through inclusive growth. Skill training equips the youth with the necessary expertise to create an employment ready future workforce for a country. Skilling is aimed at developing skills or competencies, which are relevant for the workforce. Understanding the growing demand, skill development currently forms an important agenda of the Governments. Skill development is crucial to achieve the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and hence forms a major focus in 4 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is evident that building a more resilient and sustainable world would lead to enormous opportunities and therefore result in stronger economies. To enhance the knowledge on skill gap research methodology, identification of potential employment opportunities and to impart knowledge on assessing the demand of future skills, ni-msme organised a 3-week International Executive Development Programme on “Skill Gap Study and Analysis for Mapping Employment Opportunities” sponsored under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, from 09 to 27 October 2023 at ni-msme campus. A total number of 25 international executives from 11 countries representing Botswana, Eritrea, Malawi, Maldives, Niger, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tonga, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe attended the programme to comprehend the deeper insights on identification of skill gaps and future skills for employment opportunities of youth besides sharing experiences that are beneficial to the participants. Keeping in view of importance of Skill Development needs of development economies, the international executives have contributed papers on various aspects related to the need for skill development. The papers are published in a book titled: Skill Gap Study and Analysis for Mapping Employment Opportunities: A Compilation of International Experiences, would surely invoke further deliberations on the theme which is immensely significant for the participating countries.
